Visual Practice HOW TO
...Set up your taxes
"Taxes? We don't need no stinkin' taxes!"
A play on words from a movie, taxes, and setting them up is an important consideration BEFORE you start using the Direct Billing module in Visual Practice. Our first piece of advice - don't avoid setting up and paying sales or goods and services taxes where they are required. Should you be assessed and are found to be not charging the appropriate taxes, you most likely be responsible for paying the taxes retroactively, and may also be fined as well. The bottom line - get advice from your accountant and charge and remit taxes where appropriate.
Setting them up - Preferences
Like many programs, Visual Practice contains initial settings that influence how the program behaves when used.
'Preferences' is an option that can be found under the File menu, as shown below:

When you select Preferences, a new dialog will appear, that has three tab on it, titled "Taxes", "Defaults", and "Datasource". If the Taxes tab isn't selected, click on the tab with your mouse.
Then press the Update Button
on
the toolbar to edit the tax settings, and the fields on the dialog will
brighten, and you can change the settings, as shown below:

Once you have entered the taxes
to be used, press the Save Button
on the toolbar.
The tax settings will not activate until shutdown and restart Visual Practice.
That's all there is to it!
