Visual Practice HOW TO

...Command Line Switches for Visual Practice

Visual Practice has command line switches that can be run from the command line.  These settings should be used only by administrators in order to configure Visual Practice.  Normal users will have no need to use these settings. To use these switches they must be typed exactly as seen in the Switches column.

Switches Description
 "/userid=userid
 /password=password"
Can be used to create a shortcut that automatically logs the user into Visual Practice.  Replace userid with the user's userid and password with the user's password.
  • You must include the quotation marks as shown.
  • /userid & /password must appear together.
  • The / (forward slash) is required for this switch.
/testmode Forces any users using EDT to use the Ministry of Health EDT Test System, and not the production system.  Used by technical support for troubleshooting only.
  • The / (forward slash) is required for this switch.
register Forces Visual Practice to ask for the Registration disk in order to register Visual Practice to the Registered User and Serial Number on the License Disk.
  • The / (forward slash) is NOT required for this switch.
datapath Forces Visual Practice to ask for the UNC (universal naming convention) path name for the data directory that Visual Practice will work from.  This is for configuring network workstations.  It is important that workstations have a local data directory (c:\program files\vp\data) of their own that contains the system.dbf file.  If the data directory contains a full set of Visual Practice data, the workstation will not function properly and will retrieve information from the local directory first.
  • The / (forward slash) is required for this switch.

If you need to use one of these switches, we recommend you contact ACSL technical support first, to ensure you are not endangering your system's data.
