Royal Bank Discontinues Health Card Validation POS Device Services

Posted February 20th, 2002

ACSL has learned through sources in the Ministry of Health that the Royal Bank (RBC) is going to shut down it's Health Card Validation service using Credit Card validation style devices within the month.  This leaves many physicians and health care facilities with no health card validation service, with little or no warning.

Visual Practice users using our Health Card Validation Module will NOT be affected by RBC discontinuation of service.  The Visual Practice HCV module communicates with the Ministry of Health through Bell Canada's Datapac Service or MPR TCP/IP based service, and is NOT part of the RBC system.

We have been receiving an increased number of calls from customers looking for alternatives to the RBC HCV service.  ACSL offers two HCV products, the Health Card Validation Module and the Intellicard Server

The Health Card Validation module is integrated into Visual Practice, and uses your standard modem to communicate with the Ministry of Health to obtain Health Card Verification.

The Intellicard Server is a LAN based, high volume, dedicated HCV proxy server that enables Visual Practice to broker all HCV requests through a single station and network connection with the Ministry of Health.  ACSL offers custom programming services to enable third party integration of the Intellicard Server into customer systems.

ACSL remains dedicated to health care providers in Ontario and dedicated to providing software compatible with this valuable service, now and into the future.
